6. II. Grammar 1. To + infinitive : Example : - What does Susan listen to Pop music for? - Susan listens to Pop music to relax. - To relax, Susan listens to Pop music. Form: What for? 1- To + infinitive, Clause. 2- Clause to + infinitive.
7. Usage: - “To-infinitive” is used to express the purpose. - “To- infinitive” can be placed at the beginning or at the end of a sentence. Eg:1- We learn hard to get good marks. 2- To have a good health, I usually play sport.
8. Exercise 1 : Use the words in brackets to answer the questions. 1. I phoned her ___to tell her the good news. 2. I’m saving money ___to buy a cassette player. 3. She practises singing all day ___to win the singing contest. 4. I’m learning French ___to sing French songs. 5. The monitor always goes to class on time ___to set a good example for the class.
9. Exercise 2 :Complete each sentence with the right form of a suitable verb. 1.My father didn’t have time ___to read the newspaper. 2. I wish I had enough money ___to buy a new bicycle. 3. I went to the post office ___to post a letter. 4. He telephoned ___to invite me to the party. 5. She’s going to Britain ___to learn English.
10. 2. WH - question - What : action/idea (listen to the music) - What time : time (at 7 a.m) - When : time (last month/ in the morning) - Who : person (Elizabeth) - Why : reason (because) - How : manner (good, bad) - Where : place (in Thai Nguyen city)
11. Ex: - My favourite singer is My Linh. => Who is your favourite singer? - Phong often goes to bed at 10 p.m. => What time does Phong go to bed? Form: WH-question + Aux (TĐT) + S + V? Usage: Wh- Questions are used to find out more informatin about topics.
12. Exercise 3 : Ask questions for the underlined words or phrases in the sentences. 1.What will you do if it rains ? 2. What kind of music does your father enjoy listening to ? 3. When did he leave for Ho Chi Minh City ? 4. Who wants to talk to you ? 5. How did you spend the evening last night ? 6. What time does the film start ? 7. Who is your favourite musician ? 8. Why do you like pop music ?
13. TODAY WE HAVE LEARNT : 1. The two sounds :/s/ and /z/. 2. To+ infinitive : to express the purpose. 3. Wh-questions : to ask for information.
14. Home work: -Practise two sounds /s/ and /z/ - Relearn and make sentences “Wh-question” and “to+infinitive”.
