2. WARM UP Match the sentences with the correct tenses 1. English is spoken all over the world. 2. A letter was written by Lan yesterday. 3. English has been studied for 6 years. A. The present simple passive B. The present perfect passive C. The simple past passive
3. REVISION: PASSIVE VOICE FORM: Be + PP(V3/ed) Eg: I am taken to school by my mother 10 years ago. TV is being watched by the boys at the moment. My homework will be done by me tonight. Some new books have been bought by my sister recently.
4. REVISION: PASSIVE VOICE 1. The Simple Present Tense Active: S + V0/Vs/es + O Passive: S + am/is/are + PP(V3/ed) + by + O EX: -My mother buys this book. This book is bought by my mother. She washes the dishes every day. The dishes are washed (by her) every day.
5. REVISION: PASSIVE VOICE 2. The Present ProgressiveTense Active: S + is / am/ are + V-ing + O Passive: S + am/is/are + being +PP(V3/ed) + by O EX: -I am reading a book now. A book is being read (by me) now. She is washing the dishes at the moment. The dishes are being washed (by her) at the moment.
6. REVISION: PASSIVE VOICE 3. The Present Perfect Tense Active: S + have/has + V3/ed + O Passive: S + have/has + been + PP(V3/ed) + by + O EX : - He has just written a novel for ten months. A novel has just been written (by him) for ten months. - I have done my homework since last Friday. My homework has been done (by me) since last Friday.
7. REVISION: PASSIVE VOICE 4. The Simple Past Tense Active: S + V2/ed + O Passive: S + was/were + PP(V3/ed) + by + O EX: Nga gave Tom some books yesterday. Tom was given some books by Nga yesterday. Some books were given to Tom by Nga yesterday. -The police found him in the forest He was found in the forest by the police.
8. REVISION: PASSIVE VOICE 5. The Modal verbs( Động từ khuyết thiếu) Active: S + can, could, must, may, should, going to, will + V + O Passive: S + can, could, must, may, should, going to + be +V-ed/c3+ by O Eg1: She can speak English well. -> English can be spoken (by her) well. Eg2: They are going to visit Ha long Bay this weekend. ->Ha Long Bay is going to be visited this weekend. Eg3: Nam has to buy some books for the test. ->Some books have to be bought for the test by Nam.
9. *Note : - Nếu trong câu có nhiều trạng từ thì vị trí của các trạng từ như sau: Trạng từ chỉ địa điểm + by O + trạng từ chỉ thời gian. Eg: Lan put some food on the table this morning. -> Some food was put on the table by Lan this morning. - Nếu trong câu có hai tân ngữ thì có thể chuyển bằng hai cách: He gave me a pen .➔I was given a pen by him ➔A pen was given to me by him - Nếu chủ ngữ trong câu chủ động là danh từ riêng cụ thể thì khi chuyển về câu bị động thì bắt buộc ta phải có By + tân ngữ đó. Ta có thể bỏ:by me/him/her/it/us/you/ them,somebody /someone/nobody/noone/everybody/everyone/people trong câu bị động nếu không muốn nêu rõ tác nhân hoặc thấy không quan trọng

11. EX2: Transfer these sentences into passive. 1. My father waters this flowers every morning. => This flowers are watered by my father every morning. 2. John invited Liz to his brithday party last night. => Liz was invited to John’s brithday party last night. 3. Our teacher have already explained the English grammar. => The English grammar has already been explained by our teacher. 4. Mary is making a beautiful dress? => A beautiful dress is being made by Mary? 5. He must do his homework tonight. => His homework must be done by him tonight.
12. Ex3: Transfer these passive sentences into active ones. 1. I put the butter in the fridge. -> The butter is put in the fridge. 2. Mary kept her schedule meticulously. -> Mary’s schedule was kept meticulously. 3. I have read all your old letters. -> All your old letters have been read. 4. This well-known library attracts many people. -> Many people are attracted by this well-known library. 5. We have been taught French by Mr. Smith for 2 years. -> Mr. Smith has taught us French for 2 years. 6. Nobody clean this room last week. -> This room was not cleaned last week.
13. Notes: 1. Ta có thể bỏ:by me/him/her/it/us/you/ them/somebody/someone/nobody/noone/everybody /everyone/people trong câu bị động nếu không muốn nêu rõ tác nhân hoặc thấy không quan trọng. 2. Nếu câu chủ động có trạng từ (ngữ), hoặc cụm trạng từ chỉ thời gian thì đặt chúng sau “by + O (bị động)”
14. Notes: 3. Nếu V chủ động có 2 O thì một trong 2 O có thể làm S trong câu bị động (nhưng S về người được sử dụng nhiều hơn). Nhưng thông thường chủ ngữ hợp lí của câu bị động là tân ngữ gián tiếp. 4. Các Verbs: ask, tell, give, send, show, teach, pay, offer thường có 2 tân ngữ. 5. Nếu câu chủ động có các trạng từ (ngữ) chỉ nơi chốn thì đặt chúng trước “by + O (bị động)”.
