- Teaching date: 02. 12. 2023 Planning date: 04. 12. 2023 PERIOD 38 UNIT 5: FOOD AND DRINK Lesson 4: Communication A. OBJECTIVE: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to gain the following things: 1. Knowledge: - Use lexical items related to the favourite food and drink in everyday life. - Approach and use ways to ask and answer about prices in English. + Vocabulary: use a bottle of.., a kilo of.., a bowl of.., a glass of.., a cup of.., in asking and answering about prices of food and drink. + Grammar: - Use the structure “How much + tobe + S .?.to ask about prices of food and drink. 2. Competence: - Develop communication skills and creativity. - Be cooperative and supportive in pair work and teamwork. - Actively join in class activities. 3. Qualities: - Promote pride in the values of Vietnamese Food and Drink. - Develop food & drink shopping skills and cooking skills. - Develop self-study skills. B. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES: - Teacher: Grade 7 text book, laptop, TV..... - Students: Text books, studying equipment . - Computer connected to the Internet. - Sach mem.vn C. PROCEDURE: * Warm up: Game: Going out for a meal. - Teacher puts Ss in groups of five. Each group is a family. - Teacher assigns 1 waiter in each group to serve in the restaurant. - Teacher gives the rules: Step 1: Imagine your family going to restaurant. Step 2: Choose the suitable dishes for the amount of money that you have.
- A: Which food do you choose? B: Yes, It’s 7$/ 5$/ . - Ask Ss to open their book and introduce what they are going to study . Let’s study!!! Do you know the price of each food and drink in the game? How do you ask about the price of each food and drink? I. Pre-Speaking * Everyday English Lead in: - Teacher asks students to look at the conversation in GETTING STARTED and check if they find any questions and answers about prices that Mark’s sister and Mark use to ask and answer about prices. - Mark's sister: One ... No, wait, two please. By the way, how much is a can of winter melon juice? Mark: The menu says it's 10,000 dong. 1. Listen and read the conversation. Pay attention to the questions and answers (task 1) - Teacher plays the recording for Ss to listen and read the dialogue between Mark and Mi. - Students pay attention to the highlighted parts. - Teacher emphasizes the use of asking and answering about prices Mark: How much is a bottle of mineral water? Mi: It's 5,000 dong. Mark: And how much are two kilos of apples? Mi: They're 50,000 dong. - Teacher asks Ss to give the structures to ask and answer about prices. How much + tobe +S? It is/ They are + amount of money - Teacher asks Ss to practice the conversation in pairs. Then calls some pairs to practice the conversation in front of the class. II. While- speaking: Task 2,3 ● Task 2: Work in pairs. Take turns to ask and answer about the prices of the food and drink on the menu. - Teacher asks Ss to work in pairs to make similar conversations, using the structures for asking and answering about prices. Example: A: How much is a bowl of beef noodle soup? B: It’s 30,000 dong. LY'S RESTAURANT Breakfast Menu Food
- bowl of beef noodle soup 30,000 dong bowl of eel soup 35,000 dong Toast 20,000 dong Drink glass of milk 9,000 dong bottle of mineral water 8,000 dong cup of green tea 5,000 dong - T moves around to observe and provide help. Call some pairs to practice in front of the class. Comment on their performance. ● Task 3: Listen to the conversation and answer the following questions - Teacher runs through the questions: 1. What's Nam's favourite food? 2. What's his favourite drink? 3. What foreign food does he like? 4. What food does he want to try? 5. What food can he cook? - Teacher plays the recording and asks Ss to listen only. Then play the recording again and allow Ss to write down the answers as they listen. - Teacher asks Ss to share their answers in pairs before playing the recording a final time for the pairs to check their answers. Suggested: 1. Spring rolls 2. Lemonade 3. Apple pie and pancakes 4. Hu tieu (in HCM city) 5. Omelet, rice, and spring rolls III. Post - Speaking: Task 4 Ex 4. (p 55) Work in groups. Interview two of your friends aout their favourite food and drink. - T ask Ss to work in groups, asking different classmates about their friends’favourite food and drink. Remind them to write the name of the people they interview and note the answers in the table Questions Student 1 Student 2 1. What's your favourite food? 2. What's your favourite drink?
- 3. What food or drink do you want to try? 4. What foreign food or drink do you like? 5. What can you cook? - When the students have finished the interview, T may have Ss practice reporting the results of their interviews in pairs or in groups. IV. Wrap – up - Teacher asks Ss to summarise what they have learnt in the lesson. - Teacher asks one of the Ss to play the role of the food and drink vendor, the other students are customers to ask about the prices of those food and drinks. V. Homework: - Learn by heart the structure. - Practice speaking asking and answering about prices. - Do exercise part C in workbook. - Prepare Unit 5- Skills 1
